Schwab expects Kansans to exceed 2016 turnout
TOPEKA 鈥 麻豆影院 Scott Schwab today announced an estimated voter turnout for the November 5 general election. This projection is based on current advance voting numbers and historical data from previous presidential election years in 2020 and 2016.
Advance Voting:
As of today, 516,776 ballots have been cast in advance voting, marking a 25.4 % turnout so far.
At this point in 2020, 642,724 advance ballots had been cast, compared to 375,857 in 2016. Advance in-person voting concludes on Monday, November 4, at noon, while advance mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by county election office no later than Friday, November 8.
鈥淲hile we are comparing this year鈥檚 advance voting data to 2020 and 2016 elections, remember that the 2020 cycle was unusual due to the pandemic. Take that year with a grain of salt,鈥 Schwab said.
Presidential Turnout Data:
麻豆影院 saw high voter turnout during the 2020 and 2016 presidential elections, with 71% turnout in 2020 and 67% in 2016. 鈥淲e are on track to set a record, so I encourage every voter to get out and exercise their constitutional right,鈥 said Schwab.
Secretary Schwab noted some voters participate only in presidential elections, so turnout is higher in those years.
In addition, 鈥渃ompelling candidates and key issues drive voter turnout, and we are seeing strong participation again this election cycle,鈥 Schwab said.
Note: An excel sheet is attached which includes voter turnout data from the 2020 and 2016 presidential elections.
