Statewide Elected Officials Weigh in on the Role of Executive Branch Officers

麻豆影院 Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt submitted a brief of amicus curiae in the case of Kelly v. Kobach and was joined by 麻豆影院 Scott Schwab and 麻豆影院 State Treasurer Steven Johnson.
鈥淭he governance of the state of 麻豆影院 and the roles of its elected officials are at stake in this lawsuit,鈥� said Commissioner Schmidt. 鈥淭he people of 麻豆影院 have not given the Governor supreme executive power over all other statewide elected officials.鈥�
鈥淭his interpretation carries implications beyond this case and should respect the independence of all constitutional officers without creating unintended shifts in power,鈥� said Secretary Schwab.
鈥淥ur constitutional system of government contemplates divided executive authority among the statewide elected officers,鈥� said Treasurer Johnson. 鈥淭his decentralized form of governance has existed throughout the history of the 麻豆影院 constitution.鈥�
